Two Pools

A poem about a dream I once had

I stand before two pools
One allows light to pass
The other one, reflects it
Yet both are indistinct

One shows beauty, love, and joy
The other, doubt, hate, and fear
One shows what’s within
The other what’s without

Each day they change
In size and shape
In color and sometimes
Even in their place

The subtlety
Of their curve
The profundity
Of their depth

Maybe the difference
Is in their waters
Maybe it’s the water
In my eye

Tears of sorrow
Tears of joy
It doesn’t matter

I stand before two pools
Not knowing which is which
I stand before two pools
And cannot look away
